One of the primary missions of the First Coast Apartment Association is to provide education and professional development for its members. As an affiliate of the National Apartment Association, FCAA offers several professional designation courses to benefit all levels of property management professionals as well as associate members, who provide products and services to the apartment industry.
FCAA also offers a variety of one- to three-hour classes on Customer Service, Leasing and Marketing, Leadership and Maintenance Skills, in addition to certification courses such as Certified Pool Operator and EPA Certification & Exam.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Course
Did you know…before you can clean pools at your job, the state requires that you prove that you know what you’re doing, and that you’re doing it right? FCAA offers this CPO course to help you fulfill this requirement through the National Swimming Pool Foundation.
Every 5 years the coursework and test must be retaken by individuals servicing public pools to maintain Pool Operator Certification!

According to Florida Law 64E-9.018, Public Pool Service Technician Certification, “An individual who services a public pool by maintaining the cleanliness, water quality and chemical balance of public pools shall be certified. To be certified an individual must demonstrate knowledge of public pools. . . . To ensure that the pool technician is knowledgeable, said technician shall attend a training course of national recognition that is approved by the department of at least 16 hours in length and shall pass a test acceptable to the department. Certification is conferred upon an individual and is nontransferable.”
EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification
The Federal Clean Air Act, Section 608, requires that persons who service, maintain, repair or dispose of appliances and equipment that contain regulated refrigerants be certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques. The EPA has also placed a sales restriction on refrigerants, limiting the sale of regulated refrigerants to certified technicians only.
Technicians who violate the Clean Air Act provisions may be fined, lose their certification, and may be required to appear in Federal Court.
Candidates will receive a study workbook in advance of class – if you are registering after April 9th, you will need to PICK UP your study booklet at the FCAA office before the class begins (which does not give you much time to study). 
- We will conduct a review of material for approximately 3-4 hours on the day of exam.
- If individual is paying, payment MUSTbe received prior to shipping study workbook.
NAA Designation Programs
Certified Apartment Manager (CAM)
What is the CAM?
The CAM course was re-written in the summer of 2016 and we are excited to offer the course this Spring!
Earning your CAM allows you to demonstrate that you have the knowledge and ability an apartment community and achieve owners’ investment goals. Why not make a difference by increasing your effectiveness and enhancing your skills of the multifamily industry and the career you have chosen?
The CAM curriculum is designed to maximize experience of the on-site professional and clear the path for growth and recognition. The Certified Apartment Manager designation is recognized nationally as the benchmark for professional apartment managers.
When is it offered?
FCAA offers the CAM couse twice a year, in Spring and Fall. Spring course will be held on April 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th & May 2nd
The CAM designation is for community managers and aspiring managers that have at least twelve months of apartment industry experience.
COST: $849 Members, $1049 Non-Members.
Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT)
What is the CAMT?
Maintenance expenses are the single largest controllable element in any operating budget. This course is designed as an introduction for new maintenance professionals or as a refresher for the veteran employee, to give these professionals the knowledge and tools necessary to run an effective maintenance program.
The City of Jacksonville’s Construction Trades Qualifying Board (CTQB) adopted the National Apartment Association’s ANSI-accredited Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) as the testing component for the PMC license in October, 2010. The CAMT exam replaces the Property Maintenance Craftsman (PMC) test currently in place. Successful completion of the CAMT qualifies an individual for the PMC license.
FCAA offers the CAMT course twice a year, in January and July. The CAMT registration fee includes all classroom materials, the exam and the first year of PMC licensing fees. Students must pass the CAMT exam with a grade of 70% or higher to earn the CAMT and qualify for the PMC license.
All PMC licenses expire at the same time – September 30th, every odd year. License holders should receive a renewal notice in August of each odd year. License holders must earn seven (7) continuing education credits every two years to renew their licenses. FCAA offers classes to accommodate this requirement and reports those credits to the CTQB on behalf of the PMC licensees.
When is it offered?
FCAA offers the CAMT course twice a year, in January and July. The CAMT designation requires a minimum of twelve months of apartment industry experience. Successful completion of the CAMT course and passing the exam qualifies individuals for the PMC (Property Maintenance Craftsman) license, which is a Duval County requirement for performing many maintenance tasks at apartment communities.

National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP)
What is the NALP? - Launch Your Career!
Leasing professionals are the first people prospective residents meet, and often their only gauge of the property staff. This course is designed to teach these professionals skills to help them become top producers. The NALP curriculum is focused on the needs of the leasing consultant and the contribution this professional makes to the property. The program was completely updated in 2015!
The program is ideal for all leasing professionals who seek a refresher on leasing techniques or who have recently joined the industry and want to learn more while acquiring experience.
The NALP course is designed to teach the professional skills needed in the apartment industry to help leasing agents become top performers. This program is ideal for all leasing professionals with six months of experience who are seeking a refresher on leasing techniques, who are new to the industry and want to learn the fundamentals of leasing while applying it in the workplace, or for those who are looking to advance in the apartment industry.
When is it offered?
FCAA offers the NALP course once a year, in February. The NALP designation is for leasing professionals that have at least six months of experience in the apartment industry.
