HVAC/PMC

Miya's Law

  • Florida Statutes, Section 83.515 (Miya’s Law) created new background screening and key log requirements, and increased advance notice for repairs
  • Most provisions became effective on January 1, 2023.
  • The intent of the law is to prevent those with a violent criminal history from having access to apartments.
  • Presented by Johnmichael Fernandez, FCAA's Government Affairs Manager

Human Trafficking

  • During the 2019 legislative session, language was added to Florida Statutes to increase human trafficking awareness by imposing various requirements on public lodging establishments, including apartment communities.
  • The new requirements became effective on January 1, 2021, and the law is being enforced by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
  • The law 's intent is to help raise awareness about human trafficking and increase employee training on the topic.
